Penny Lane

Hiya humans, my name is Penny Lane.  A couple times, I’ve met some new humans who thought about givin’ me a forever home… but decided that I wasn’t the best match for them.  So I thought I’d give this blog thingy a shot so ya can learn a bit more about me and who I am as a doggy.  Okay, so here’s the usual stuff humans ask… I’m almost a year and a half old, and I’m a…. ????… very mixed doggy breed!  I have some Wire-Haired Terrier, and probably some other breeds, too, but until our humans do somethin’ called a “DNA Test”, no one really knows what I’m mixed with.  I’m excited to find out what kinda dogs my parents were, too!  I was picked up by KCK Animal Control in February, and I had some complications with my health and needed a lil more TLC, so I stayed here after I got fixed up.

So, now that I’ve filled ya in on the boring stuff, here’s what I wanna tell ya ’bout.  See, I have this real cute face our humans really love!  I’m real sweet with humans, and LOVE goin’ on walks with volunteers, staff and on Pack Walks, then comin’ back an’ just chillin’ on the cool tile floor while I’m bein’ petted and given lots of tasty treats (I do this thing when I lay down that our humans tell me is really cute… I lay with my back legs out flat behind me like a frog… I do this because I get extra pets and attention ’cause I look soooo cute… humans are silly sometimes, but I love ’em).  At first when I got here, I was kinda unsure what to think ’bout the doggies I’d meet on a leash, so I didn’t behave the best… I  feel kinda bad ’bout that, but I’m LOTS better now!  I am great walkin’ with other dogs, and prefer to say that I’m very selective ’bout who I wanna be friends with… if I could, I’d love to be the only pet in the home ’cause I’d rather have ALL of the attention for myself… but I could share humans with cats… I suppose.  I’m not real interested in cats… they’re okay to watch, but that’s about it.  I would love to have an active family or human ’cause I do have a bit of energy, but I also know how to just chill out, too.  I love playin’ with squeaky toys, and I know how to sit real pretty for treats!  I’ve heard our humans and some of the other dogs, like Radar, talkin’ ’bout an agility yard they’re workin’ on building for us, and I think I’d rock at that kinda stuff!  I can jump real high, and I’m treat motivated, so I’d be easy to train!  That’d be great if the human or family who gives me a forever home wants to do that kinda stuff with me!

In case you’re wondering… I’m gonna update ya on some of the adoptions before I go for one of my daily walks… Oreo and Brownie got adopted together!!  How awesome for them! Their new humans love them, and their new mom is writing a blog called A PitiFULL Life for them to talk ’bout positive Pit Bull stuff!  Romy found her forever home with humans who met her way back at Dog-N-Jog, and she now lives with 2 brothers and 1 sister… all Labs, too!  Luke went on TV last week, and a real nice man saw him and told his wife, and they fell in love with Luke, so he went to his forever home last week, too!  I’m hopin’ I find a forever home soon, too, but I know that sometimes it just takes a while for our humans to find us here.

One more thing… I think Ethan and Etta are gonna blog ’bout the satellite adoption event this weekend, but they’re pups, and sometimes they forget things, so I wanna tell ya anyway.  Some of us are goin’ to Four Paws Pantry and Spa this Saturday from 11-3. If ya wanna know more ’bout the satellite, or about me, check out hsgkc.org for more info! Bye for now!

Brownie (Adopted with Oreo!)

brownie4

Hi humans!  What’s new with you?  I’m excited ’cause i just found out I getta go to Hamburger Mary’s tonight for a charity bingo thingy (I guess Bingo is a game you humans like to play) that will benefit HSGKC!  It’s from 7:30-9:30 pm, and I’m goin’ and so are Romy, Luke and Marvin!  I like goin’ to fundraisers ’cause I can give all the kisses I want!  And, I get lots of treats and attention, so it’ll be fun and I’m hopin’ that maybe someone real nice will meet me and wanna make me a member of their family.   Anyways, for more info ’bout where we’ll be tonight, check out hsgkc.org.

I wanna update ya on some of the adoptions, too… like Nemo got adopted again!  See, he had to come back here ’cause things weren’t workin’ out so hot for him in his new home… not his fault, and not anyone’s fault really… the other doggy decided he’d rather have his humans all to himself and didn’t wanna share with Nemo.  But, that happens sometimes, ya know?  Just ’cause we’re dogs doesn’t mean we all like each other!  So, this nice family came in and were wanting to maybe adopt a girl puppy, but Christine introduced them to Nemo and they fell in love with him!  I’m happy he found a new home pretty fast… and I’m ready for one, too.  Echo got adopted, too!  She’d been here for almost a whole year, but like our humans say… eventually a human or humans find us! Bianca is a lil sad without her BFF, but she’s gettin’ lots of extra attention from Jai, and Bianca and Zappa are workin’ on bein’ friends, which is cool.  Sasha was adopted and Mila, too!  Pete (fka “Skinny Pete”) went to a foster home last week, too… so lots of things have been changin’ round here.

One other thing I wanna tell ya ’bout that I’m real excited about… and other dogs, too, is the BEG Program is starting!!!  I think Radar and a couple other dogs have kinda mentioned it when they’ve blogged.  I dunno ’bout all the details, but Pete’s got lots and lots of ideas to help all of us dogs while we’re here waiting for our forever homes to enrich our lives with stuff like agility, and to help prepare us for our forever homes.  He’s awesome!  We’re excited ’bout it… and we’ll fill ya in when we know more.  I also know that our humans are tryin’ real hard to raise money for an agility yard for us, and to fix our fences…see there’s at least one doggy who’s bein’ a bit naughty and chewin’ the fence up!  Our humans are so puzzled ’cause they can’t figure out who’s doin’ it…  I may know, but I’m not tellin’ ’cause I’m not that kinda dog!

I’m gonna go for now… I gotta get a bath so I look real handsome for tonight!  Bye!!

Romy (Adopted!)

romy1

Hi everyone!  My name is Romy (I think I was named after a character in a movie called “Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion”).  I’m a bit over 6 years old and I’m a Chocolate Lab with a really pretty coat!  I was surrendered to HSGKC back in February by the family who I lived with because they couldn’t afford a surgery I needed. I’m embarassed to say why I needed surgery but I guess you’ll wanna know…. I ate a sock… again.  Oops… well anyway I know my family loved me and wanted me to get better but they couldn’t afford all the stuff I needed to get better.  Anyways I’m soooo glad I ended up here!  I have a great thing goin’ here… I have a roommate I like, Luke (I had a pup named Reuben livin’ with me for a bit… and he’s nice and everything, but I like Luke ’cause he’s real calm), and our humans got me all better and I feel AWESOME!

I just found out I get to go to an event called Dog-n-Jog this Sunday, June 14!!!  I’m so excited!!  I love goin’ to satellite events ’cause I meet lots of new humans… and I hope every time I go that maybe I’ll meet someone who falls in love with me and wants to give me a forever home again!  In case you’re wonderin’, I think the other dogs who are goin’ are Brownie, Mila, Thomas, Aubrey, Marvin, Farley, Luke, and Nemo (he was adopted but had to come back here ’cause even though the humans he lived with LOVE him, the other doggy in the family just didn’t wanna share attention with him… so he’s back, but that’s his story to tell, I just wanted to fill ya in a bit).  Ok, so back to me… I’ve heard that Dog-n-Jog is lots of fun!  I’m really happy I get to go and ’cause there will be lots of humans there that maybe a couple families will be interested in learnin’ more ’bout me!  The other cool thing ’bout Dog-n-Jog is that it’ll raise money for HSGKC so our humans can keep doin’ all the good stuff they do for us dogs and cats who are here waitin’ for their forever homes!  They need donations to help pay for stuff, like the pictures I had to have taken of my belly (I think those pictures are called x-rays… sheesh, ya’ll have lots of fancy words for stuff, lol), and for heartworm treatment like my roommate, Luke, had!  I’ve heard our humans talkin’ and they said Dog-n-Jog is lots of fun, and there’s still time to register if you wanna help us out!  It’s from 7-10:30am on the Country Club Plaza… that sounds like a fun, exciting place!  Anyways, you can learn more ’bout Dog-n-Jog from this link thingy, www.dognjog.org.

I’m gonna go for now… it’s time for me to go find a mud puddle to play in!  If I don’t get adopted soon, I’ll tell ya ’bout the kinda forever home I’d like when I get to blog next!  I hope to meet you at Dog-n-Jog!!!  Bye!!

Oreo and Brownie (Adopted Together!)

brownie4oreo

Hi!  My name is Oreo an’ me an’ my bro, Brownie, get to try this blog thingy out today. First, I’ll tell ya a lil ’bout us.  See me an’ Brownie came from the same doggy parents an’ this real nice human had us for ’bout 2 years.  He had to move, an’ tried really, really hard to find a place to live where we could live to, but he couldn’t, so he ended up bringin’ us here.  We were kinda scared when we first got here, Brownie more than me, but after gettin’ used to all the noise an’ commotion, an’ goin’s on, we started settlin’ in.  Even though we’d really love to go to a forever home together, we don’t have to… even tho we’d miss each other, we’ll be okay.  Maybe if we don’t get adopted together, our new humans will wanna stay in touch so we can still hang out an’ play together.  Anyways, I got kinda sidetracked.  So, here’s what ya need to know… we’re both Pit Bulls, we’re 2 years old, an’ pretty good with most other dogs.  I’m a lil more picky than Brownie, but maybe it’s ’cause I got a bit more energy than he does!  We love humans!!!  We both love givin’ kisses, an’ goin’ for walks (I heard from some of the other dogs here that if you jump the fence, you getta go on more walks… so I figured out how to jump the fence, tee hee.  The dogs who don’t jump fences get to go on walks, too, but they also get to spend time hangin’ out in the yards longer, in case you were wondering ’bout that).  We both walk pretty good on a leash, an’ are good with adult humans, an’ small humans, or kids, I think.  I would love to chase cats, but our humans won’t let me, an’ I guess I understand that ’cause our humans love all the cats an’ dogs here ’cause they’re awesome like that.  That’s enough ’bout me, I’m gonna let Brownie have a turn now.

Hi… I’m Brownie.  Oreo is a bit more outgoing than I am, not that I’m really shy or anything, but I’m not as outgoing as she is.  I love goin’ on walks, too, and LOVE givin’ kisses! I went to a fundraiser at Gordon Biersch earlier this month, and one of the volunteers there said that I was a real flirt and a charmer… I’m not quite sure what all that means, I was just being myself and giving her lots and lots of kisses!  Oreo and I wanted to kinda tell you what we’re like, and the kind of forever home we’d like because there’s another satellite adoption event on Friday.  It’s at Tail Waggin’ PetStop from 6-8 p.m. May 1st for something called “First Fridays”.  I don’t know if I’m going yet or not, but I know last month Farley went, and this really, really nice human who spent a lot of time with him thought he might be a good match for her and her dog.  After Christine talked with her, Bruno ended up being perfect for her and he went to his forever home on Saturday… so we’re hopeful maybe someone will want to meet us!  I’ve been to a couple satellites and am real well behaved.  I’m good with both big and small humans, and most dogs.  I can handle my sister’s energy, and if I can’t go to a home with her, would really love to have a doggy brother or sister. I’ve been “cat tested” and behaved, but our humans would say that I should really be supervised if I were to go to a home with cats.  Both of us keep clean kennels, so we wouldn’t be hard to house-train… we’d just have to learn the routine in our new home. That’s a good reason to adopt an adult dog versus a puppy, just sayin’, ’cause we’re grown up an’ know house rules, like what not to do in a home.  Well, that’s all from me for now… bye!

I’m gonna finish up for me an’ Brownie… he’s not as much of a talker as me, I guess. Anyways, if you’re not busy with human stuff Friday, you should go to First Friday an’ meet a few of HSGKC’s adoptable dogs!  Tell ’em me an’ Brownie sent you… lol! If ya wanna learn more ’bout us, an’ info ’bout Friday, check out hsgkc.org.  Gotta go… it’s time for me an’ Brownie to settle in for the night.  Bye!!!  XOXO

Hercules

Hey humans, how’s it goin’?  All of us dogs here are doin’ all right.  After a bit of discussion amongst our humans, they’ve decided that I’m the new narrator for the HSGKC Dog Blog since Smiley is now at the Rainbow Bridge.  I’m happy I was chosen to narrate (and I’m not at all surprised I was chosen, I mean, c’mon, I’m “Hercules the Magnificent” after all).

With my new title, this means I will fill you humans in on the stuff that’s goin’ on here at HSGKC.  The KC Pet Telethon was a success, from what I’ve heard.  All I know is that I was AWESOME!  Christine worked with me for about 2 weeks to prepare for our spot on the Telethon, and I learned how to do some neat new tricks, like “finish”, “turn”, “spin”, and “crawl”.  She was even more proud of me than she was last year ’cause I was so good for her!  I can even do a lot of the stuff she taught me off leash, but that’s ’cause she always has really yummy treats for me, and I love workin’ for food!  She’s gonna keep workin’ with me and teach me some new stuff, but I heard her talkin’ to Pete and Kate about Shiloh… I guess I’m gonna have to share some of Christine’s time with Shiloh because he needs to learn some obedience stuff, too, especially how to “stay”!  I know I’m the smartest dog in the kennel, and as much as I hate to admit this (so don’t tell Shiloh, please), he’s a clever dude!  He knows how to make a mad dash out of the building so our humans have to go chase him and lure him back… which is pretty funny!  I don’t bother with those types of “games” ’cause I know my food is here, and my treats, so I wouldn’t run off!

I also heard some talk about a satellite adoption event Saturday, March 21, at Four Paws Pantry and Spa in Olathe from 11-3.  I think Aubrey‘s gonna go, and I heard maybe Brownie will go to his first satellite.  I do like going to satellites, occasionally, but I’d rather stay here Saturdays to human and dog watch… plus Saturdays are when the most volunteers come in, so I get A LOT of treats!  I’m not gonna miss out on that for anything!

I almost forgot… big news… Gia, aka “Big G” was adopted Tuesday.  She’s been my neighbor for almost a year, so I’m gonna kinda miss her, but I’m real happy her humans came along and adopted her!  She’d been here for a little over a year, and was even skinnier than I was when I came in.  She was lookin’ pretty good, ya know, for an American Bulldog.

One other lil bit of gossip/news, for those of you who have seen pictures of Pibble on our Facebook, Instagram or Twitter pages, she’s doin’ real well.  I know I’m Christine’s most favorite dog, but I think Pibble is givin’ me a lil competition.  Pibble’s healing well and is a real friendly girl from what I’ve heard.  She won’t be ready for adoption for a while, but I thought ya might wanna know she’s doin’ good.  That’s what makes this shelter so awesome… our humans really do everything they can to help us dogs so we can go to a forever home.  I was skinny, and heartworm positive when I came in, and look at how handsome I am now!

That’s all the news I have for now.  I’ll check in with you again soon.
