Hi, my name is Lucy and I’m a 6 year old Pointer mix.  My former owner had me for about 5 years, but couldn’t keep me anymore because I wasn’t getting along with the other dog in my home.  It’s taken me a little while to adjust to life here (I came here at the end of July), so I didn’t want to blog ’til I was more settled.  So far things are goin’ okay.  I like watching what the other dogs are doing.  Some of ’em are really entertaining, like Denver and Dakota… even though I’d prefer to be the only pet in the home, I still think the boys are real cute, and it’s fun watching them in play groups.  I like going on the Pack Walks the best!  Those are lots of fun for us, and I think our human care-takers and volunteers like going for the walks, too.

I have to confess a couple things, but first I want to say I’m house-trained! I keep a real clean kennel, and would adapt well to new home and “potty” routine pretty fast, and probably wouldn’t have any accidents (1 of the many advantages of adopting an adult dog).  But I guess I need to work on my leash manners some (I’m strong, so I tend to pull the human walking me… sorry ’bout that to all who’ve walked me, but I really like walks!).  My other confession is only a confession ’cause it can be frustrating for humans, but I think it’s cool… I can jump and climb fences. When I first arrived, our humans put me in a room for new dogs and in the room are 2 dog runs (but they’re not indoor/outdoor runs like we have in the main kennel), and I was in one of the runs.  I surprised the human who opened the door later in the day ’cause I’d climbed out of my run and was waiting right at the door!  I could probably climb the tall fence that surrounds the yards, so I get to go on walks every day!  Not that the other dogs don’t, I just get to go on more… see why I don’t think my climbing abilities and jumping skills are something to confess, ’cause my “skills” totally work in my favor.

Next time I blog I’ll talk about the kinda forever home I’d like, but for now I’m gonna go for a walk!

Rukus (Adopted!)

hi… my name is Rukus, an’ i’m a 5-6 month old Collie mix an’ I came in with Snoopy.  i’m a really sweet guy, an’ love spending time with humans cuz they pet me an’ love on me an’ give me treats!  i gotta confess somethin’ tho, i think the reason my name is Rukus is cuz when i came here i had a different name, so when Christine came into the room me an’ Snoopy were in, the first thing i did was bark at her… so she re-named me Rukus (i can’t remember my old name, and i kinda like “Rukus”).  i still bark a bit, but that’s just cuz there’s lots an’ lots of stuff goin’ on, an’ i’m still a pup, so i dunno yet how else to act!  when i first got here, i was a lil bit shy, but i figured out real quick the humans here are real nice!  i’m workin’ on bein’ more outgoing like Snoopy is, cuz i wanna find a forever home.

i’d love a real home of my own.  bein’ in a house for a while was sooooo nice after bein’ out an’ about with Snoopy by ourselves, so i wanna talk ’bout the kinda forever home i’d like.  i’m a real nice boy, i walk real easy on a leash, and i like to play with Snoopy an’ other puppies lots… so i’d be VERY happy to go to a home with a doggy brother or sister. and, i’ve got lots of energy, an’ i know after i’ve been in a play group, i’m kinda tired… hey, that’s sneaky of our humans… they put us in play groups so we can run off our energy then we sleep real good at night, an’ sometimes we’re all more quiet in the kennel after play-time… but that’s k cuz i have lots of fun!  i heard Denver an’ Dakota get to go to a home together cuz they’re bro’s, but me an’ Snoopy don’t got to go to a home together.  i really like other doggies, so i don’t think it’d be too hard to find a good brother or sister for me… but if ya want me an’ Snoopy together, that’s cool too!  i haven’t met alot of small humans yet, but cuz i’m me an’ a sweet boy, i’d probly be ok with them.  i dunno ’bout cats yet, they look like fun to chase, but i think some humans have “rules” ’bout chasin’ cats… silly rules!  anyways, cuz i like runnin’ an’ playin’ so much, i’d love a big yard with a fence, kinda like we have here.  i dunno, i think Christine will help find a great match for me cuz that’s what she does.  if ya wanna learn more ’bout me, how to adopt me an’ stuff, check out

k, that’s all i got for now… plus, i’m gettin’ ready to go out an’ play with Snoopy… that’s way more fun than this “blog” thingy!  bye!!

I'm still a pup but I can keep up with Snoopy!

it’s hard to deny that i’m pretty cute!

Snoopy (Adopted!)

Hey humans, what’s doin?  My name is Snoopy and I’m a Shar Pei mix, and I’m ’bout a year old.  I ended up here ‘cuz some nice woman found me and my roomie, Rukus, runnin’ ’round as strays, and she kept us ’til they had room for us here.  But, we don’t gots to go to a home together like Denver and Dakota.  So far, I like bein’ here.  There’s lots to see what with all the dogs in the kennel and our humans.  They take real good care of us, feedin’ us good food, and making sure we’re healthy.  We get to play outside in a big yard and run ’round playin’ (like me and Rukus do cuz we’re roommies), and we get to go on walks, and on Sundays we get to go on longer walks called “Pack Walks”.

Last Sunday, Christine walked me, and when we came back inside to cool off for a lil’ bit before goin’ to get breakfast, I gave Christine a hug.  She made a big deal ’bout how cute that was, and so did the other humans hangin’ with us, too, like Jana, Valerie, and I think Chuck probly thought it was cute even tho he didn’t say anything’.  I’m real gentle like when I give hugs, so I oh so softly climb into their lap and put my head over their shoulder, then the human’ll wrap their arms ’round me and give me kisses on my head.  I’m gonna try this on more humans cuz I like gettin’ special attention like that… it’s almost better than treats!

Anyways, I wanna talk ’bout the kinda forever home I want, but I’ll wait ’til it’s my turn to blog again.  I’ve heard our humans talkin’ ’bout a big event thingy called “Art Unleashed” that’s goin’ on tonight.  Hercules was nice enuff to tell me and Rukus ’bout it, even tho i think he told us just so he could show off how smart he is.  So the thingy tonight is suposbly cool for humans to go to cuz they can buy stuff called “artwork” and the “money” they spend all goes to HSGKC to help our humans pay for stuff they need to take care of us like they do.  I dunno what “money” is either, but I think it’s important… and I don’t wanna ask Hercules anything else to puff up his ego. K, what I’m gettin’ at is you should go ‘cuz if you go and spend money, it helps take care of us.

I gots to go, it’s breakfast time!!  See ya’!

I like to give hugs and get loved on by humans!

Rukus tries to catch me but I’m too fast!

Denver and Dakota, the Dynamic Duo (Adopted together!)

hi humans!  we’re Denver and Dakota an’ we’re 4 1/2 month old lil pit bull mix puppies.

denveri’m Denver an’ i’m gonna talk more ‘cuz my brother, Dakota, is a lil shy at first sometimes, but not me!!  i’m real friendly an’ outgoin’ an’ wanna meet everybody now ‘cuz all the humans we meet are sooooooo nice to me an’ my bro.  we got to blog today cuz we’re goin’ to somethin’ called a sat-eh-lite ah-dop-shon event on saturday at Brookside Barkery an’ Bath.  Vinny just told me we’re goin’, an’ he’s goin’ too, an’ that’s great ‘cuz we like Vinny.  i dunno ’bout it, but Vinny told us it’s fun ‘cuz we’ll meet lots of new humans, an’ we’ll get lots of attention an’ treats.  we’re both happy we get to go ‘cuz it sounds fun!  we would’ve blogged yesterday, but we had to get “fixed”… i’m not real sure what that means ‘cept we can’t make puppies of our own an’ i think that’s good ‘cuz we’ve seen lots of dogs in our lives already, so we know lots an’ lots of doggies need homes, too, not just puppies.

wanna know somethin’ else?!?!  me an’ Dakota get to go to a fore-ev-er home together.  i was listenin’ when our humans were talkin’ ’bout us, an’ ‘cuz we’ve been thru lots already, they don’t wanna split us up.  i’ll let Dakota talk ’bout that.  anyways we love each other, an’ we play together, an’ eat together, an’ sleep together… an’ really don’t wanna be apart.  when we’re playin’ outside in the yard together, we always stay close to each other…our humans always tell us how cute we are together an’ make a big fuss ’bout us!  be sure to check out our video so you can see us in action!  an’ cuz we’re sooooo cute together an’ we make our humans smile lots, who wouldn’t want both of us?!?!  we really love all the humans we’ve met here ‘cuz they’re so nice to us.  we moved into the main kennel on thursday, an’ it’s okay… kinda scary ‘cuz there are lots of big doggies, but we’ll be ok!  i’ve heard of doggy play groups an’ those sound like fun, so maybe we’ll get to be in one of those soon!  k, i’m gonna let Dakota blog now.  bye!

dakota2i’m Dakota.. .uuhhmm, i know my bro talked ’bout some of our story an’ he wants me to tell the rest.  me an’ Denver were in the oak-la-ho-ma city animal control shelter when a human, Steve (he’s one of the HSGKC humans who takes care of us), came in to pick up 2 older dogs named Lucky an’ Chica (Kate calls them “the Bickersons”, an’ after ridin’ with them for a few hours, i know why… they bark an’ make lots of funny noises. i guess that’s how they talk to each other… it’s funny).  i heard that Lucky an’ Chica were there ‘cuz their adopter dropped them off an’ didn’t tell HSGKC that he couldn’t take care of ’em anymore (HSGKC promises adopters they will always take back pets they adopted if things change or don’t work out, an’ that’s cool).  Luckily, the oak-la-homa city shelter checked for microchips and found out Lucky an Chica belonged back at HSGKC and that saved their lives. anyways, when Steve got there, he saw sooooo many dogs.  he asked the human who brought out Lucky an’ Chica ’bout the next doggies who were gonna be put to sleep to make space, so that human brought out my brother to meet Steve.  Steve took one look at him, then peeked ’round the corner an’ saw me, too, an’ told that human “I’m takin’ them with me”… so Steve’s a hero an’ so are all our other humans here at HSGKC ‘cuz they saved our lives.  our humans really want us to go to a fore-eh-ver home together ‘cuz we’ve gone thru a lot an’ we’re just babies , an’ i’m real happy ’bout that.  when Denver was gettin’ fixed, i cried an’ cried for him cuz i didn’t know where he went… but when i saw him a lil later, i felt lots better cuz we don’t like bein’ apart.  we’re real lucky to be here an’ we love our humans.  i’m kinda tired now, an’ gotta rest up for the thingy we’re goin’ to saturday.  bye!
