Hey humans, what’s goin’ on with you?  I’m doin’ good ’cause last night I gotta go for a “sleepover” with Harrison… he’s a new dude workin’ in the kennel who I think is AWESOME!  Anyways, the last time I blogged (it’s been a minute, I know), I was talkin’ ’bout all the cool stuff our humans do for us dogs to make our lives better while we’re waitin’ for our forever homes, an’ Pete started this real cool thing called “HSGKC’s BEG Program”.  I think “BEG” means Behavior Enhancement Group… anyways the important thing ’bout it is more volunteers an’ staff are doin’ more stuff with us… like sleepovers! The BEG Program is all ’bout doin’ stuff that’ll help us get ready for our forever homes, like car rides, sleepovers (ya gotta remember, lots of us here haven’t ever been in a real home… so we don’t know ’bout all the gadgets an’ what-not ya’ll gots in your homes), walks in parks (like Ricky, another cool dude, takes Merrick to different parks every Sunday an’ they go for long walks), an’ just runnin’ “errands”.  And… somethin’ else I’m stoked ’bout is that when the weather finally stays warm for a bit, WE’RE GETTIN’ AN AGILITY YARD!!!!!  I’m sooooooo excited ’bout that… cuz ya know I gotta show off my skills with agility!  Our humans love us, an’ really wanna do everything they can to give us a full life while we’re here!

Me an’ Harrison hangin’ out last night!

Harrison was real proud of me ‘cuz I was real good in his home last night an’ this morning!  I was a lil wound up at first… just gettin’ used to all the new sounds and stuff, but I settled down after a couple hours.  I liked havin’ a human all to myself for a night! I didn’t make a mess in Harrison’s home… but I did discover that I enjoy shoes… they’re kinda fun to chew on… lol.  I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to chew on them, but I didn’t destroy them or anythin’, I was investigatin’… but now I know shoes are okay to sniff, but not chew on!  I’m smart an’ learn stuff real fast!

That’s all I got for now!  TTYL!

hi humans, it’s been a bit since i blogged last an’ i’m soooo excited cuz i get to blog today! i just heard from our humans i’m gonna go to my very first satellite adoption event on Saturday!!!!!!  before Nemo got adopted (and we’ve heard he’s doin’ GREAT, btw), he got to go to lots of satellites cuz he was so easy to handle… not that i’m hard to handle, but he was pretty lazy from what i heard!  anyways, i got a new roommate, too, named Breann.  i LOVE her!  she’s so much fun to play with, and we’re ALWAYS playin’ together, in our doggy run and outside in the yard!  i like her the best outta the 3 roommmates i’ve had… Nemo, Bruno (he also got adopted and is doin’ great, too), and now Breann!  when Pete and Christine introduced us, i was real good… i think cuz when i saw her and sniffed her and checked her out, i thought she seemed cool and fun!  anyways, i got kinda side-tracked, but that’s cuz i’m real happy i get to go to a satellite and cuz i REALLY like Breann!  ok, so i hope Breann goes to the satellite, too, so i have a friend to play with, but if she doesn’t, that’s ok, too.  i’m goin’ to a place called Four Paws Pantry & Spa in Olathe from 11-3 on Saturday, May 16th!  Nemo and Bruno told me at satellites they’d get LOTS and LOTS of attention from humans… like bein’ petted, and gettin’ lots of tasty treats!  i know i’m gonna have to have a bath so i look my best for the satellite!  i dunno how i feel ’bout that yet, but i’ll let ya know if i like baths or not.  if ya want more info ’bout the satellite, check out HSGKC‘s website!  oh, i almost forgot, there’s gonna be another satellite on Friday at this play called the Art and Bicycle Clubhouse in a place called the Crossroads. it’s from 6-8.  i’m not goin’ to that one, but i thought some of ya might wanna know!

so… not to be too much of a gossip or nothin’, but i’ve been listenin’ to our humans talkin’ ’bout lots of stuff, and i’ve heard them talkin’ ’bout somethin’ called an “agility yard” and that coming real soon they’re gonna start a drive to raise money for it.  i know some of the dogs like Porter, Dooney, Vinny, an’ Leo got to try out some agility equipment that an Eagle Scout troop built and donated to us.  when they’d come back in after learnin’ some new stuff, they’d all look real happy and tired, like they had lots and lots of fun, and were gonna sleep real well that night cuz they were tuckered out from doin’ somethin’ new.  Nemo even went to some agility classes at The Dogs’ Spot, too, and he said it was fun… he wasn’t real into that kinda stuff, but he did it to make Stan (the volunteer who took him) happy and for food.  that got me thinkin’ that i hope our humans can get enough money to buy the stuff they need for the agility yard cuz i wanna check it out!  i bet i’d be real good at agility cuz i LOVE treats, i can jump pretty high, i’m smart, and i got lots of energy!  i think the agility yard is part of some big thingy Pete is workin’ on for us dogs to make our lives even better while we’re waitin’ for our forever family to find us here!  it sounds so cool!  Pete’s always lookin’ out for us, and so are the other humans who take care of us!  they’re awesome!

that’s all i got for now… but i’ll let ya know if i hear more ’bout the agility stuff!  don’t forget, if ya wanna come meet me Saturday, i’ll be in Olathe!  i’m hopin’ i meet my forever family at my first satellite… that’d be way AWESOME!  bye!!!

nemo_agilityi know i talked ’bout the kinda forever home i’d like the last time i blogged, an’ i’m really hopin’ i meet some awesome humans Saturday!  i’ve heard Christine tell humans who apply to adopt doggies that i’m “pretty bomb proof”… which i think is her way of sayin’ i’m da bomb ’cause i’m so good with other dogs, they all love me!  i’m great in play groups, an’ just a fun lil guy!  i like my roommy Radar lots, like i love wrestlin’ an’ runnin’ around the yard with him!  k, so one more thing, i’ve been takin’ some agility classes at The Dogs’ Spot, which is really fun… i like doin’ it, an’ know the human who takes me, Stan, is real proud of me for all the stuff i’ve learned how to do!  so, this real nice lady who takes our pictures made a video of me doin’ some of my agility stuff, so check it out!

that’s all i got for now, but if you want a “bomb proof” dog as a friend for your dog, then you gotta come an’ meet me Saturday!  for more info ’bout where i’m gonna be, go to www.hsgkc.org.  bye!!!!

Hey ya’ll, ma name is Groot an’ I’m from Nawlin’s Loo-see-ann-nah.  I was in a shelter dere, an’ Jai (one of da humans here who takes care of us dogs), got me on somethin’ called a “transport” to come here.  I’m glad I’m here, cuz dis shelter is I think kinda a special place, so I think I’m a lucky boy to be here!  So, here’s summa my info… I’m a Pit Bull mix, a lil over a year old, an’ I LOVE humans!!!!  I love bein’ petted, an’ goin’ for walks, an’ gettin’ treats (I like Kongs with dee-lih-shous wet food in dere for me to eat!).  I love gettin’ in a human’s lap for pets, an’ I give good, nice kisses… I’m not a slobbery kisser!  I’ll tawk mo’ ’bout da kinda forever home I’d like anoder time, cuz I wanna tawk ’bout somethin’ more fun dat I gotta do last Sunday.

groot_xmas7funnyOur humans here always wanna do extra stuff to help us dogs an’ cats find forever homes, so I gotta have ma picture taken with 11 oder dogs for something’ called “Da 12 Strays of Christmas”.  Ya gotta looka’ somethin’ called “Facebook” an’ “Instagram” cuz that’s where dey post da dogs an’ cats.  I was real good for ma picture session, an’ looked real cute.  Da pic ya see here is funny cuz it looks like I don’t got ears, but I think I look cute an’ real sweet like da nice boy I am!  It was lots of fun gettin’ my picture taken cuz I got LOTS of treats, an’ Christine an’ Jana dressed me up an’ stuff to make me look mo’ handsome dan I already am!

Dat’s all I gots ta tawk ’bout fo’ now, an’ it’s time fo’ me to go play in da yard an’ run ’round!  I hope ya’ll like our pictures an’ maybe think ’bout donatin’ stuff like toys or oder stuff our humans need to take care of us… dey need alotta stuff to take care-ah all us! Hey humans, or people!  What’s goin’ on with you?  I’ve got lots to tell ya ’bout… here’s what’s been goin’ on.  Last week Christine was super busy ’cause of the Plaza Art Fair, and lots of dogs got adopted, like Tommy Boy (his name is Murphy now), Rukus, and all the Shepherd mix puppies who came here in a laundry basket… someone had found them behind a dumpster at a food place.  I got to go to the Plaza Art Fair, too, and had fun gettin’ lots of attention… and I heard Jana tell Christine that I’m a “great satellite dog”!

I haven’t blogged in a while ’cause I did go to a home for a while, but decided I really didn’t want to live with cats. I would love to chase them, especially outside, but humans I guess don’t like this, so I’ve decided I don’t wanna live with them, it’s too much work.  Then I went to a doggy daycare place for a while, and decided I wanted to come back here… in my next forever home, I gotta be the “alpha” dog, I don’t like being ’round other dominant dogs… they make me a lil nervous, but I love havin’ doggy friends! Pete is workin’ on tryin’ to find a new roommate for me, and I know it takes time to match us up right!

This is what I’m most excited about… agility!!!  Last week Christine took me out to try out a couple new agility things instead of only a walk (we did that, too).  She was real proud of me ’cause I learned how to do the Dog Walk, A-Frame, and the Bar Jump (she tried to teach me the Tire Jump Wednesday, and I tried to jump over the whole thing, so she tried the Bar Jump instead).  Anyways, on Saturday, Christine wanted to show Pete what I’d learned, and he was impressed with me!  He helped teach Christine how to take me up the Teeter-Totter (that’s a lil tiny bit nerve-racking), and we did it!  I got tons of treats and was told how smart I am!  I did learn how to do the Tire Jump, too, with Pete’s help, and I rocked!  I heard Porter sayin’ something ’bout how our humans are workin’ on more agility stuff for us, and a yard for just that, and I’m real excited to learn new things!  Also, Tuesday night when I was in obedience class, I learned “down” and did it right for the first time!!  I love learnin’ all kinds of new things.

Gotta run… it’s time for me to go for a walk!

Here I am mastering the teeter-totter!

Gia, aka “Big-G” (Adopted!)

Whad-up people?  I gotta agree with Porter on this one…”people” just doesn’t flow for me just yet.  Anyways, I’m excited cuz I finally got a nickname: Big-G.  I like it cuz now I’m weighing in around 91 pounds and I’m lookin’ goo-ood and cuz my 2 favorite guys, Pete and Chuck, started callin’ me that!  When I got here, I didn’t look real good and only weighed 62 pounds, and the vet said I was “emaciated” or somethin’ like that.  See, I lived on a chain, too, and the humans who had me really didn’t take good care of me… but that’s all in the past… what’s important is I’m doin’ way better now.  Our humans think I could easily gain another 15-20 pounds, but it takes time for us to gain weight.

I’m still the strongest dog here, just ask any of the humans who’ve taken me for a walk.  I’m sure they’d like it if I didn’t pull so hard when I walk, but I like showin’ all the other dogs how strong I am.  Pete’s spent some time teachin’ me how to “heel”, and if I gotsta heel, I will, but I kinda do what I wanna do most of the time.  That’s part of being an American Bulldog, we’re stubborn, I think the word humans use is “headstrong” or somethin’ like that.  It’s part of our charm… and what can get us into trouble sometimes if we’re part of a family that’s never had a dog like us before. Not to say that we’re not good for first time dog owners, but ya gotta know what you’re doin’ with us… we LOVE humans, LOVE makin’ our humans happy, but bein’ stubborn means you’ve gotta be real patient with us and know how to train us!

I’d “blog” more, but I’m savin’ my energy for when Chuck comes in to take me for a long walk!  I have to share him with Darla and Ella cuz he likes them lots too, but ’til I get adopted and have my very own humans I gotta share, even if it’s with Darla and Ella (I’m not talkin’ smack on them or anythin’, I just wanna be the center of attention).  Gotta run, I’ll check in again soon.

Me and Chuck just hangin' out after my walk...this weather is perfect for me!

Hey humans what’s goin’ on? Btw, I’m workin’ on callin’ ya’ll “people” but it doesn’t “flow” for me when I’m bloggin’ just yet. Anyways, I’ve got more important stuff to talk about than proper names, like some new things I’m learnin’ to do.  So Pete has been wantin’ to do more for us dogs, to add some new fun activities to our days, and cuz he’s worked with dogs a LOT even before he started workin’ here he knows tons ’bout dogs.

Anyways, some Eagle Scouts built some agility equipment for us and I got to try it out a couple times last week… and I gotta tell ya, I’m AWESOME!!  I tried a couple things like a tunnel at The Dog’s Spot, but this new stuff is way cool, too!  Pete’s teachin’ Christine how to teach us dogs agility, so together we learned how to do a Dog Walk, an A-Frame, a Teeter-Totter, and my favorite is the hoop/tire jump.  I rock the jump and power right through the hoop and get real excited when I run and jump through it!  I heard Pete tellin’ Christine that Dooney‘s more “precise” than I am when he’s doin’ agility stuff, but he can’t bring the power like I can!  I know Hercules jumped through the hoop, too, but I think he’s jealous he’s not as good as me… hee hee (and cuz Christine’s spendin’ time with me)!

I wanted to talk about the agility stuff cuz our humans are workin’ on somethin’ soon to raise money to have a fence put up and a shed to store the equipment in (see, Willis, I know big words, too).  Our humans are always tryin’ to find new things for us to do to make our lives better while we’re waitin’ for our forever homes.  You gotta check me out in this video so you can see how boss I look!  You’d never know I lived on a chain my whole life before I came here… and who’d ever think a dog like me could do something like this, but, then again, I rock!

That’s all I got for now!  Peace out!
