Penny Lane

Hiya humans, my name is Penny Lane.  A couple times, I’ve met some new humans who thought about givin’ me a forever home… but decided that I wasn’t the best match for them.  So I thought I’d give this blog thingy a shot so ya can learn a bit more about me and who I am as a doggy.  Okay, so here’s the usual stuff humans ask… I’m almost a year and a half old, and I’m a…. ????… very mixed doggy breed!  I have some Wire-Haired Terrier, and probably some other breeds, too, but until our humans do somethin’ called a “DNA Test”, no one really knows what I’m mixed with.  I’m excited to find out what kinda dogs my parents were, too!  I was picked up by KCK Animal Control in February, and I had some complications with my health and needed a lil more TLC, so I stayed here after I got fixed up.

So, now that I’ve filled ya in on the boring stuff, here’s what I wanna tell ya ’bout.  See, I have this real cute face our humans really love!  I’m real sweet with humans, and LOVE goin’ on walks with volunteers, staff and on Pack Walks, then comin’ back an’ just chillin’ on the cool tile floor while I’m bein’ petted and given lots of tasty treats (I do this thing when I lay down that our humans tell me is really cute… I lay with my back legs out flat behind me like a frog… I do this because I get extra pets and attention ’cause I look soooo cute… humans are silly sometimes, but I love ’em).  At first when I got here, I was kinda unsure what to think ’bout the doggies I’d meet on a leash, so I didn’t behave the best… I  feel kinda bad ’bout that, but I’m LOTS better now!  I am great walkin’ with other dogs, and prefer to say that I’m very selective ’bout who I wanna be friends with… if I could, I’d love to be the only pet in the home ’cause I’d rather have ALL of the attention for myself… but I could share humans with cats… I suppose.  I’m not real interested in cats… they’re okay to watch, but that’s about it.  I would love to have an active family or human ’cause I do have a bit of energy, but I also know how to just chill out, too.  I love playin’ with squeaky toys, and I know how to sit real pretty for treats!  I’ve heard our humans and some of the other dogs, like Radar, talkin’ ’bout an agility yard they’re workin’ on building for us, and I think I’d rock at that kinda stuff!  I can jump real high, and I’m treat motivated, so I’d be easy to train!  That’d be great if the human or family who gives me a forever home wants to do that kinda stuff with me!

In case you’re wondering… I’m gonna update ya on some of the adoptions before I go for one of my daily walks… Oreo and Brownie got adopted together!!  How awesome for them! Their new humans love them, and their new mom is writing a blog called A PitiFULL Life for them to talk ’bout positive Pit Bull stuff!  Romy found her forever home with humans who met her way back at Dog-N-Jog, and she now lives with 2 brothers and 1 sister… all Labs, too!  Luke went on TV last week, and a real nice man saw him and told his wife, and they fell in love with Luke, so he went to his forever home last week, too!  I’m hopin’ I find a forever home soon, too, but I know that sometimes it just takes a while for our humans to find us here.

One more thing… I think Ethan and Etta are gonna blog ’bout the satellite adoption event this weekend, but they’re pups, and sometimes they forget things, so I wanna tell ya anyway.  Some of us are goin’ to Four Paws Pantry and Spa this Saturday from 11-3. If ya wanna know more ’bout the satellite, or about me, check out hsgkc.org for more info! Bye for now!

Sasha (Adopted!)

Hiya humans, my name is Sasha.  I’m about 2 years old, and I’m a Lab/maybe-some-Boxer mix.  I was found as a stray by KCK Animal Control back in March.  I was real sick with somethin’ called Parvovirus, and another tummy bug, and heartworm infection, AND I was real skinny… so, I was a mess.  I’m almost finished with my heartworm treatment, and I’ve gained almost 20 pounds since I first got here… so ya know our humans are takin’ real good care of me!  I’m happy, too, ’cause I got moved to the back room in the kennel area… see our humans gotta have a place to fix our food, do laundry, and give us baths, and when this building was designed they put a run in the back room for a special dog.  I know the doggy run back there is now called “Smiley’s Run” and it’s for special dogs like him and me who just need some extra TLC!  I LOVE bein’ in the back room!  I getta hang out with the humans who take care of us doggies and some of the humans who take care of the kitties, too!  I have my own doggy bed that I can lay on and I have more room to move around.  I love it when humans come back and visit me and I get so happy and excited to see them I use my paws a lot to get their attention, and to get them to play with me.  I play bow a lot… but they don’t seem to get that move… silly humans!  I getta just hang out in the back room… unless they have to bring another dog back to get a bath, then I have to go in my kennel ’cause I’m not a huge fan of other dogs, I prefer to have all the attention for myself.  I’ll tell ya ’bout that the next time I blog… for now I got somethin’ else to tell ya ’bout: Dog-N-Jog.

I’ve heard our humans talkin’ bout this big event thingy called Dog-N-Jog (I’m gonna call it DNJ for the rest of my blog… too much to type out, lol).  Anyways, DNJ is this Sunday, June 14 from 7-10:30 a.m. on the Country Club Plaza.  There’s a 1 and 2 mile run and a 1 mile walk, an agility course, and lots of other fun stuff.  If ya wanna learn more ’bout it and register online, go to www.hsgkc.org.  I’ve heard it’s fun for humans and doggies, and it raises money for our humans to keep takin’ care of dogs like me who are real sick, and need lots of medical care to get better!  I can’t go ’cause I’ve got ’bout 2 1/2 weeks left of “leash walk only” before I can run ’round.  That’s ’cause of the heartworm treatment… see I can’t have my heart goin’ too fast or it’d be real bad for me… so I’m gonna supervise the humans who are gonna bathe the dogs who are goin’ to DNJ to make sure they look their best!  Sometimes you humans need help from us dogs, too!  I keep myself real clean, my kennel is clean, and when the doggy yard is really muddy,  I’m always super careful to avoid the muddy spots when I go out for my morning walk!  I think I heard our humans sayin’ that maybe 7-8 dogs from here are gonna go to DNJ and represent all of us dogs here at HSGKC!  Whoever blogs tomorrow will fill ya in on who’s gonna go.  If you’re goin’ to DNJ and ya have a Black dog like me, be aware of signs of overheating… see ’cause of our coats bein’ Black, we get hot lots faster than other colors of dogs!  I know that may seem silly, but some humans don’t know that.

Well, that’s all I got for now… I’ll tell ya more ’bout me and the kinda forever home I’d like next time!  Bye!

hi humans, it’s been a bit since i blogged last an’ i’m soooo excited cuz i get to blog today! i just heard from our humans i’m gonna go to my very first satellite adoption event on Saturday!!!!!!  before Nemo got adopted (and we’ve heard he’s doin’ GREAT, btw), he got to go to lots of satellites cuz he was so easy to handle… not that i’m hard to handle, but he was pretty lazy from what i heard!  anyways, i got a new roommate, too, named Breann.  i LOVE her!  she’s so much fun to play with, and we’re ALWAYS playin’ together, in our doggy run and outside in the yard!  i like her the best outta the 3 roommmates i’ve had… Nemo, Bruno (he also got adopted and is doin’ great, too), and now Breann!  when Pete and Christine introduced us, i was real good… i think cuz when i saw her and sniffed her and checked her out, i thought she seemed cool and fun!  anyways, i got kinda side-tracked, but that’s cuz i’m real happy i get to go to a satellite and cuz i REALLY like Breann!  ok, so i hope Breann goes to the satellite, too, so i have a friend to play with, but if she doesn’t, that’s ok, too.  i’m goin’ to a place called Four Paws Pantry & Spa in Olathe from 11-3 on Saturday, May 16th!  Nemo and Bruno told me at satellites they’d get LOTS and LOTS of attention from humans… like bein’ petted, and gettin’ lots of tasty treats!  i know i’m gonna have to have a bath so i look my best for the satellite!  i dunno how i feel ’bout that yet, but i’ll let ya know if i like baths or not.  if ya want more info ’bout the satellite, check out HSGKC‘s website!  oh, i almost forgot, there’s gonna be another satellite on Friday at this play called the Art and Bicycle Clubhouse in a place called the Crossroads. it’s from 6-8.  i’m not goin’ to that one, but i thought some of ya might wanna know!

so… not to be too much of a gossip or nothin’, but i’ve been listenin’ to our humans talkin’ ’bout lots of stuff, and i’ve heard them talkin’ ’bout somethin’ called an “agility yard” and that coming real soon they’re gonna start a drive to raise money for it.  i know some of the dogs like Porter, Dooney, Vinny, an’ Leo got to try out some agility equipment that an Eagle Scout troop built and donated to us.  when they’d come back in after learnin’ some new stuff, they’d all look real happy and tired, like they had lots and lots of fun, and were gonna sleep real well that night cuz they were tuckered out from doin’ somethin’ new.  Nemo even went to some agility classes at The Dogs’ Spot, too, and he said it was fun… he wasn’t real into that kinda stuff, but he did it to make Stan (the volunteer who took him) happy and for food.  that got me thinkin’ that i hope our humans can get enough money to buy the stuff they need for the agility yard cuz i wanna check it out!  i bet i’d be real good at agility cuz i LOVE treats, i can jump pretty high, i’m smart, and i got lots of energy!  i think the agility yard is part of some big thingy Pete is workin’ on for us dogs to make our lives even better while we’re waitin’ for our forever family to find us here!  it sounds so cool!  Pete’s always lookin’ out for us, and so are the other humans who take care of us!  they’re awesome!

that’s all i got for now… but i’ll let ya know if i hear more ’bout the agility stuff!  don’t forget, if ya wanna come meet me Saturday, i’ll be in Olathe!  i’m hopin’ i meet my forever family at my first satellite… that’d be way AWESOME!  bye!!!

nemo_agilityi know i talked ’bout the kinda forever home i’d like the last time i blogged, an’ i’m really hopin’ i meet some awesome humans Saturday!  i’ve heard Christine tell humans who apply to adopt doggies that i’m “pretty bomb proof”… which i think is her way of sayin’ i’m da bomb ’cause i’m so good with other dogs, they all love me!  i’m great in play groups, an’ just a fun lil guy!  i like my roommy Radar lots, like i love wrestlin’ an’ runnin’ around the yard with him!  k, so one more thing, i’ve been takin’ some agility classes at The Dogs’ Spot, which is really fun… i like doin’ it, an’ know the human who takes me, Stan, is real proud of me for all the stuff i’ve learned how to do!  so, this real nice lady who takes our pictures made a video of me doin’ some of my agility stuff, so check it out!

that’s all i got for now, but if you want a “bomb proof” dog as a friend for your dog, then you gotta come an’ meet me Saturday!  for more info ’bout where i’m gonna be, go to www.hsgkc.org.  bye!!!!

Radar

radar

hey humans!  my name is Radar, and i’m a 9 month old Shepherd mix with BIG ears, that’s how i got my name!  anyways, who knows what else i am ’cause i’m on the small side for a Shepherd, but that’s what makes me unique!  i’m so excited it’s finally my turn to blog… i get it, Christine’s been real busy ’cause of the Plaza Art Fair an’ other stuff, an’ i let Jack go ahead of me ’cause he had some important stuff to talk about.  i’m real lucky i didn’t have parvovirus, but i know how awesome our humans are ’cause they do take real good care of us, and take in sick puppies like Jack and make sure they get better… even tho it costs lots of money, they do everything they can for us ’cause they rock!

okay, so here’s whatcha need to know ’bout me– i like to talk ’bout everything (humans call it “barking”… they have WAY too many words for stuff)!  i like to talk at the other dogs in the kennel, and to my roommate, Nemo, ‘specially when he’s gettin’ on my nerves (that happens sometimes… ya know, too much togetherness), and when i’m on a leash and see cats i talk, too!  so, i think in human terms this means i’d need to go live in somethin’ called a house, not an apartment or somethin’ with close neighbors… picky picky, but whatever!  i like Nemo, he’s lots of fun to run ’round with and wrestle with and i LOVE bein’ in doggy play groups!  i really do like most dogs, but sometimes i’ve heard our humans say i can be a lil “bossy”, so if i get to have a doggy brother or sister they need to know that i gotsta be the “alpha” dog (see i know what that means!)!  i can do a neat lil trick like Lucy, too, and can jump a 4′ fence (hee, hee)… i’m very agile for a smaller dude!  i’m real smart, too.  like i’ve been in a few obedience classes and learned lots of stuff, like how to “watch” and “sit”, and “down”!  it takes me a few minutes to focus… there’s just LOTS of stuff goin’ on, and i gotta watch what everyone else in class is doin’, then talk ’bout it, then i’ll pay attention to the human working with me!  i’m real good with big humans, but i’m not real sure ’bout small humans yet, so maybe a forever home with in-between humans would be best for me!  i’ve got lots of energy, and would LOVE to go on runs and maybe even try some of that agility stuff!  i think i’d be AWESOME!  but, it’s been rainin’ lots, so Pete an’ Christine can’t take me out so i can try the stuff ’cause they don’t want me to slip an’ get hurt (see what i mean, our humans rock… especially Jai, she’s my favorite)!

that’s all i got for now, there’s stuff goin’ on in the kennel i gotta check out! if you wanna learn more ’bout me or how to meet me, check me out on petfinder, or on HSGKC’s website!  bye!
