Farley: Meet Me at Art Unleashed!

Heya humans!  How ya doin’?  I’m doin’ pretty good myself and I’m very excited ’cause I just found out I getta go to Art Unleashed on Saturday, August 22!!!  So, ’cause I’ve been listenin’ to our humans talkin’, I know this is like a BIG fundraiser for HSGKC with all kinds of stuff called “art work” to bid on in a silent auction (I dunno how ya can bid on sAU_LOGO2015whiteBG-01omethin’ if you’re silent, but that’s complicated human stuff I don’t worry ’bout too much), and there’s a live auction for super cool stuff too (like extra special pieces of art work, an’ some other cool stuff).  You can still buy tickets if you want… and all the proceeds are for HSGKC! It’s their second biggest fundraiser, and I know it costs lots of money to help all of us dogs and cats here, so Art Unleashed is real important for our humans to keep doin’ what they’re doin’!  I’m goin’ with Ethan & Etta and Roxy.  I’ve got a good feeling this is FINALLY “my event”… meanin’ some great humans are gonna fall in love with me as soon as they see me and wanna make me a member of their family!

I went to Tails on the Trails last Saturday at Ad Astra Park in Lenexa, and 2 other dogs who went with me got adopted!  Bowie went home Monday (I gotta admit, it was real cute watchin’ him crawl on his belly real gentle like to his 2 new doggy brothers who are lil dudes… and I gotta say Bowie’s braver than I am with small dogs… the first one I met, Olaf this lil Chihuahua, barked at me once, and I got kinda scared, so I jumped on Pete, and put my front paws on his shoulder!)  Oh yeah, and the other dog who went home is Rupert, he went to his forever home on Wednesday!  And, Etta & Ethan were at the event, too, and they are ALWAYS a riot to watch!!  They’re silly, and real cute the way they play together and with all the other doggies they meet!

Last time I did this blog thingy, I talked a lil ’bout my personality, and some of my quirks, but want to fill you in a bit more ’bout me.  A couple months ago, I gotta to go to a 5K walk/run with a volunteer (she’s one of my favorite humans, Angela), and ’cause it  was real early in the morning, I got to have a sleepover at her house.  It was awesome!!  She said I was a real good boy, and I pottied outside everytime, so I’d adjust real quick to that part of bein’ in a home!  I’d really like a forever home with another doggy like me to play with, I think… I mean I’d be ok as an only dog, too, but it’s fun playin’ with other dogs… especially if I met another Hound like me!  I’m still workin’ on my leash manners… but even though I pull pretty hard, I’ve heard Barley is like SUPER strong… and I’m not quite that bad… I don’t pull much after we’re walkin’, like on the Pack Walks.  Our humans say I’m smart, goofy, curious… and they’ve FINALLY found hard toys I like a LOT. I’d prefer soft toys… but I’m kinda obsessed with them, and ’cause our humans hide ’em from me, when I do get my mouth round one… well, I don’t wanna let go, but I do… eventually, lol!!

I’m gonna go… time to go for a walk!  Don’t forget to check out hsgkc.org for more info ’bout Art Unleashed, it’s supposed to be lots of fun — and you’ll get to meet ME there!!!  Cross your paws for me ’bout this bein’ the event where I meet my forever family!  Bye!!

this is me riding nicely in the car for my sleep over

Here I am in the house with my buddy, Ron, and on my best behavior!

And finally… getting ready for the 5K Run! It was very fun!

Update from Dixie

Hey ya’ll, how’s it goin’?  I’ve got somethin’ real nice I wanna tell ya’ll ’bout… I’m in a foster (probably forever) home!  Ya see, this real nice couple applied to adopt me, and came out and met me earlier this month.  I was a lil unsure at first, but they played fetch with me out in the yard for a bit which was fun.  Then their daughter came to meet me, too, and they all really liked me a lot after we spent some more time together.  Anyway, ’cause I’m particular ’bout the humans I like (unless they have something very deee-li-cious, called corn-dogs… Angela, one of my favorite humans always brings them in for me when she visits HSGKC), they weren’t quite sure ’bout how I’d be in a home, so Christine suggested maybe they’d consider fostering me to give me a lil more time to adjust to a home, and they decided to give me a chance!

The mud puddle I found..."so much for the bath"!

The mud puddle I found… so much for the bath!

So, I’ve been livin’ with a mom, a dad, and a daughter who’s home from college for the summer, and I gotta tell ya’ll, I’m lovin’ it!!  I went to their house on May 17th, and the day before I left, Christine gave me a bath after Angela and Stan brushed me earlier in the day… well, when I got to the new place, I found a mud puddle to lay in which made my new parents laugh… and I was just doin’ it ’cause it was cool and I like rollin’ around in the grass and mud, I’m a dog after all.  Oh, and they started calling me “Betty” instead of Dixie.  I kinda like the name Betty… Dixie is nice, too, but Betty means somethin’ to them, so it makes me happy they changed my name… like I think they’re gonna keep me.  I’ve met a bunch of new humans, I have a HUGE yard to run around in, humans who take me on 3 walks a day, play fetch with me, and I get TONS of attention.  My new humans are real impressed with my manners… like I get to eat dinner when they eat, and I don’t beg for food, I eat my dinner and then just hang out and wait for them to finish.  They’re workin’ with me on how I meet new humans, too, and I’m improvin’.  Pete and Christine visited today, just to answer some questions my foster mom and dad had.  I was real happy to see them, and I showed how much I loved bein’ there ’cause I kept rollin’ over on my back for belly rubs.  They got to see the awesome backyard I hang out in, too.  They thought I looked sooo happy (Christine kept sayin’ that, and I am real happy).

Well ya’ll, that’s about all the news I’ve got for now… just thought ya might wanna know how things are goin’ for me.  I’m just real happy that this family is givin’ me a chance to become a part of it… not a whole lotta humans just want one dog at a time, and I’m real happy they’ve chosen me!  I’ll let ya know if they decide to adopt me, so keep readin’ this blog thingy for updates.  Bye ya’ll!

Look at how happy I am! I smiled for Pete & Christine.

Hazel and Holly

hi, my name is Hazel, an’ my sister’s name is Holly.  we’re Shepherd/Hound mixes, an’ we’re ’bout 9 months old.  see we came here ’cause we were the last 2 puppies left from a litter, an’ we were livin’ outside ’cause the humans who had us didn’t really wanna keep us in the house, an’ couldn’t find us homes… so this nice lady got our other humans to give us to her an’ she brought us here ’cause she was real worried ’bout us bein’ outside all the time.  anyways, we were kinda shy an’ a lil scared when we got here, ’cause we’d never seen so many new humans before!  we’re doin’ lots better now tho, an’ like all the humans we’ve met so far!  we love all the humans who take care of us, like Pete, an’ Maddie, an’ Steve, an’ the human volunteers who come in an’ take us outside to play in the yard, an’ we LOVE goin’ on pack walks!  they all give us lots of treats, an’ pets, an’ hugs an’ stuff!  it’s cool bein’ here, ’cause we know we’re loved, an’ cared for, an’ that we’ll find an awesome forever home… but i’ll let Holly tell ya ’bout the kinda forever home we’d like… she needs to try this blog thingy out, too…

uuhhmm, hi, i’m Holly… my sis told me i should try this blog thingy, but i’m not real sure what to talk ’bout, but i’ll try.  Hazel filled you in ’bout how we got here, so i guess i’ll tell you ’bout the kinda forever home we’d like. Connor got to go to his forever home Saturday, so that got us thinkin’ ’bout the kinda home we’d like.  our humans want us to go to a home together, which is real nice of them ’cause me an’ Hazel want that, too! we don’t wanna be split up ’cause we’re real close, like sisters, an’ it’d be scary to not be with her… like i can’t imagine life without her.  that’s the most important thing to me, but we’d also like a fenced yard to run ’round in.  we’re still a tiny bit shy (me more than Hazel) when meetin’ new humans, so maybe we shouldn’t go to a home with real small humans… plus we’re workin’ on somethin’ called “manners”… i guess that’s somethin’ you humans like lots… we’re not naughty or nothin’ like that, we just get real excited sometimes an’ jump on our humans, an’ ’cause we’re gonna be bigger doggies when we’re all growed up, we might like knock a small human over just ’cause manners are so hard to learn!  we’ve met some other doggies, but we’re still not sure what to think of other doggies yet… but we do like Aubrey… she’s fun!  we’re hopin’ we get to be in a play group with her soon, so we can make new friends an’ have someone else to play with.  k… that’s all i got to say for now… bye.

i’m takin’ over again ’cause Holly doesn’t know what else to say… anyways, if ya think maybe you’d wanna give us a forever home together, check us out, we’re on petfinder.com, an’ on hsgkc.org (under the “adopt” tab).  we’ll blog again soon, but right now, we’re gonna go ’cause it’s time to go outside and PLAY!  bye!

Hey humans!  My name is Farley, and I’m a 14 month old Hound mix!  I came here from Kansas City, KS, Animal Control ’cause HSGKC had space and wanted to get me in a new place hopin’ I’d get adopted from here!  Anyways, I like bein’ here lots!  I got a roommate, Bandit, who’s lots and lots of fun to play with!  We like runnin’ round the yard together!  I’m a big boy, and I’m still growin’, like I think our humans think I’ll weigh almost like 85-90 pounds when I’m all growed up.

This is Shine with his new family

Before I talk ’bout me, I wanna update you on some super cool stuff that’s been happenin’ here… like Shine gettin’ adopted!!!  That’s awesome!  I heard from the other dogs he’d been here for almost 5 years.  Shine used to live outside of a drug house as a guard dog and he was treated real bad, so he had some special needs to work on and had to learn to trust humans.  His new parents are real nice and amazing humans, so he’s a real lucky dog! HSGKC is cool ’cause they do keep dogs here ’til their humans find them here!  Max, and a lil guy named Coach went to their forever homes on Saturday, too, which is real cool!  So, it’s been a busy place here!

Okay, so here’s some stuff you’d need to know ’bout me if you’re thinkin’ ’bout makin’ me a member of your family!  First, I’ve got LOTS and LOTS of energy, and I’m real strong… like I’ve heard our humans sayin’ that other than Gia, I’m like the strongest dog here… so I give the humans who take me on a walk (like the Pack Walks which I love, btw) a real work out!  I’m tryin’ to work on my leash manners ’cause I know our humans would like that, but I’m just so excited to go on a walk I can’t help it!  And, I figured out how to go on more walks… see I know how to climb the fence here… tee hee!!!!  I’m a smart, and goofy dude!  If I’m hangin’ out with Bandit in the yard, I gotta be supervised ’cause I’ll try to climb over the fence, and I like to chew on stuffed toys and tennis balls, and one time I swallowed a toy ’cause I didn’t wanna have it taken away from me!  So, what I’m kinda gettin’ at is I’m a bit of a handful… but in a good way!  I do learn stuff pretty quick, and I love all the humans I meet!  I’m good with most of the dogs I meet, too, but ’cause I’m big, and tall, and real energetic and such, not all dogs always like me… but that’s okay ’cause I got a cool roommate in Bandit!

Well, that’s all I got for now!  Plus, it’s time for me to go on a walk… I love that I’ve kinda trained the humans who take care of us!!!  Bye!

Yep, this is me in action!

Dazzlin’ Dixie

Hey ya’ll!  How ya’ll doin’?  It’s been a while since I last blogged, and I realized I never told ya’ll bout the kinda forever home I’d like to have.  I wanna tell ya’ll ’bout that ’cause I know some other dogs and pups here have gone to their forever homes recently, like Ella, Connor, Rosie and Baloo (just to name a few dogs).

I’m super affectionate with the humans I know and I love attention.  I love goin’ on walks. I love my food and treats but I’m not food aggressive. I really love corn dogs… one of the volunteers, Angela, brings me corn dogs on Saturdays!

I’m a little picky about meeting strangers and who I trust right off the bat… it’s nothin’ personal, I’m a dog who’s a bit feisty and I have a selective taste in humans.  But a sure way to make a good impression on me is to come out in the yard and play fetch with me!  I love playin’ fetch!  It’s one of my fay-voh-rit things to do!  I’m real good at bringin’ the ball back to my human friends.  Check out my video to see me in action!   I’m a smart lady, I know lots of obedience stuff and am pretty much house-trained.  My ideal forever home would have a big ol’ fenced in yard, and humans to take me on lots of walks.  I wanna be the only pet in the home… I appreciate cats’ right to exist, but I really don’t wanna live with ’em, and other dogs… not for me either, I want all the attention for ME!  Also, ’cause I’m picky ’bout humans, I shouldn’t go to a home with small humans… like maybe teenage humans might be okay, but it’s gonna depend on the humans. I don’t wanna come off as bein’ too high maintenance, I’m just a quality girl who needs a special kinda home.

On another note… I’m not one to gossip, but there’s lots goin’ on ’round here and I can’t help but tell ya’ll ’bout some of the stuff ’cause our humans are workin’ real hard to fix it for us.  See, we’re havin’ some problems with the plumbin’ that flushes the dirty water out of the building.  So, I heard some humans who fix the plumbin’ are comin’ in next week and gotta dig up one our play yards to try and fix it!  Anyways, I know that’s kinda borin’ stuff, but I know it’s gonna cost lots of somethin’ called “money”.  See, our humans do everythin’ they can to take real, real good care of us and that uses lots of the money stuff, so I know sometimes they need a lil extra help with other stuff that comes up… so maybe if ya want, our humans would think it’s awful nice if ya wanted to do somethin’ called “donate” to help ’em out… if ya help them, you’d be helpin’ us, too!

I hope I didn’t bore ya’ll too much!  If ya wanna learn more ’bout me, don’t forget to check me out on petfinder.com.  Bye ya’ll!

Hey humans, what’s up?!?!  My name is Max and I’m one of the new dogs here, so I wanted to introduce myself and tell ya some stuff ’bout me. Someone tied me to a tree here one night and left me… but don’t feel bad for me ’cause of that, ’cause I’m here now and my life is goin’ juuuusst fine!  I have a doggy friend, Leo, I live with and we’re close to the same age, so we get along real good.  I’m a little over a year old… oh, yeah, and I’m a Lab/Hound mix.  I always look worried ’cause I have these “wrinkles” on my forehead our humans think are cute!   Saturday Leo and some of the other dogs here (Nemo, Willis, Rylee, Diesel, and Ladybug) got to go to Brookside Barkey and Bath for a satellite adoption event.  I didn’t wanna go ’cause when I went last month, I was kinda nervous ’bout all the new humans and “busy” stuff goin’ on… so I decided to come back here and hang at the shelter.  But I gotta go to obedience class instead at The Dogs’ Spot so I get to be ’round new humans and new dogs, and I’ve learned stuff so fast, I can start Intermediate Level! I like goin’ to do that kinda stuff, and goin’ on walks (like I LOVE goin’ on the Pack Walks, too!).  I’m hopin’ the dogs who go to the Barkery met some awesome humans who wanna adopt them!

K, so here’s whatcha need to know ’bout me… ’cause I’m kinda nervous at times, and ’cause I have LOTS of energy, I’d do best in a home without small humans… I don’t do nothin’ bad at all, it just takes me some time to warm up to new humans and find out I can trust them.  When I’ve spent some time with a human and know I can trust ’em, I’m real loyal to them! I do like dogs, but can be a little picky ’bout who my friends are… I don’t “get” dogs like Nemo who just like EVERYONE, ya know… I’m a little more selective. Also, I can jump a tall fence thingy too, unless I’m playin’ with Leo and bein’ supervised by a human… hee hee… this way I getta go on more walks!  So, what I’m gettin’ at is that I’d be good in a home without a fence, or with a tall, tall fence and another dog to play with!  One other real, tiny, little thing is I can’t live with cats.  I’ve got so much energy I just wanna chase them and I’m kinda a rough-housin’ kinda guy and don’t really know how to play real gentle with them. I’m so affectionate to the humans I know, and am real smart, too, and I walk pretty good on a leash!  When you see me, you’ll see how cute I am with my wrinkles!

That’s all I got for now, it’s almost time to settle in for the night.  If ya wanna learn more ’bout me, check me out on hsgkc.org.  Bye!

Rylee (Adopted!)

Hey ya’ll doin’?  My name is Rylee and Ah’m ah Lab/Hound mix from Loo-sianah who came here with Diesel.  Ah’m a lil over a year old, and Ah’m ah real, real sweet girl!  Diesel already told ya’ll ’bout where we came from, so Ah just wanted ta innerduce mahself and tell ya’ll a lil bit ’bout me, who Ah is and the kinda forever home Ah’d really like ta get.  Ah love Diesel, but we don’t gots ta be adopted together, but Ah’d LOVE ah home with anoder dog (me and Diesel’d love ta go together, but we don’t gotta)! Ah’ve got lots and lots of energy and love ta wrestle and run ’round with Diesel in the yard. Ah love goin’ on the Pack Walks, too, ‘cuz they’s fun and Ah like bein’ ’round dogs and all the humans!  Ah’ve been ta a couple a satellite adop-shun events, too, and am hopin’ Ah’m fixin’ ta go on Saturday ta Brookside Barkery and Bath for the event then!  Adop-shun events are soooooo much fun cuz when us dogs getta go, we get lots and lots of deee-lih-shous treats and pets and attention!  Check out hsgkc.org for more info ’bout the event.

So, here’s the stuff ya’ll should know ’bout me.  K, Ah already told ya’ll Ah gots lots ah energy, and that Ah’d really love ta live with anoder dog, and cuz Ah’m energetic and spunky Ah prolly shouldn’t live with lil ones.  Ah like bigger kids and grown-up humans lots, but sometimes Ah can be ah lil shy when Ah meet humans Ah don’t know, but if ya give me ah treat, Ah start ta warm up pretty fast.  Ah’m mostly house-trained, but it’d take me a lil time ta adjust ta my new family’s routine and home, but Ah’s ah smart girl, so Ah’d learn fast!  Ah gots one flaw tho… Ah can’t live with cats… Ah wanna chase ’em too much, and Diesel tol’ me humans don’t like that too much.  Ah’m sure cuz Ah’m so sweet and friendly that humans could look past that one lil flaw Ah got!  One last thang, when me and Diesel came here from Loo-sianah, Ah was very underweight, and our humans are doin’ the best they can ta put some weight on me, but that takes time.  Ah think when Ah go ta my forever home, Ah’ll put on weight fast… cuz Ah just know that my future humans’ll spoil me rotten!

That’s all Ah gots ta tell ya’ll for now!  Don’t forget if’n ya wanna learn more ’bout me ta check me out on my Petfinder page!  Buh-bye!

Echo (Adopted!)

Hey humans!  My name is Echo.  I’m a 10 month old Cattle Dog/Hound… who knows what else mix who came here back in July.  See what had happened was this — I was picked up by a Kansas City, KS, Animal Control Officer and brought here ’cause I had a real, real bad injury to my right rear leg/paw.  Our humans tried lots of stuff to make me better again, and after a while I got lots better (I had surgery on my paw and somethin’ called a “skin graft” to help me heal).  Anyways, I’m all good now, so I wanted to tell ya ’bout me, ’cause maybe my family is out there somewhere and just hasn’t found me yet!  (Thanks to all you humans who “share” our blog with other humans ’cause ya never know who might read ’bout one of us and say somethin’ like “I gotta meet that dog or puppy… btw, I dunno what all some of this stuff means, but I think it might help us find forever homes).

Ok, so here’s a lil ’bout me, I’ll keep it short.  First, I’m a really sweet, affectionate, friendly girl!  I love humans and am smart, too!  I’ve been to a couple obedience classes and learned stuff like super fast (“sit”, “watch me”, “down” and I’m workin’ on “leave-it”)!  I like most other dogs, but I gotta be the BOSS… I’m kinda like a bossy big sister, but that’s not a bad thing, it’s who I am!  I’ve made friends with lots of doggies and puppies here, like Bandit, Bianca and Annie.  I walk pretty nice on a leash, but can’t go super far yet… even though I’m healed, I still gotta build up to goin’ for real long walks, but I can play for like 2 hours or more a day with my friends!  Another good thing ’bout me is I’m pretty much house-trained… I keep a clean kennel!  I don’t have any “issues” with food or toys or treats or anything like that, I’m just an awesome girl!  If you wanna learn more ’bout me, check me out on Petfinder.com, or HSGKC’s website for info ’bout how to meet me!

I gotta go for now… time to go out and run ’round the yard!!!  Bye!

Hooper (Adopted!)

hi everybody my name is Hooper!  i don’t totally understand this blog thingy, but my roommate, Copper, told me it’s my turn to blog today an’ tell ya some stuff ’bout me.  i came here ’cause i was real sick with somethin’ called parvovirus… it was real yucky an’ no fun… so i went to a special kinda place (VCA Welborn Animal Hospital) where the humans there gave me a bunch of stuff to make me better, then i came back here to recover in the quarantine room.  when i was all better, i moved out to the main kennel where most of the doggies an’ puppies live.  i got a roommate fast, that’s Copper, an’ he’s lots of fun to hang out an’ play with.  he does this real neat trick that i think is frustrating for our humans, but i think it’s awesome– he jumps fences. i like hangin’ out an’ runnin’ ’round with him.  Copper really likes to play fetch when humans hang out with us while we’re playin’, an’ i wanna play, too, so sometimes i try to take the toys away from Copper so they’ll play with me, too… but sometimes i don’t wanna share, so our humans are tryin’ to teach me to share better.  i dunno what the big deal is, but i guess it’s somethin’ i’ve gotta learn.

i just heard from Copper and Grizzly that i get to go to Nebraska Furniture Mart tomorrow AND to Dog-N-Jog on sunday!  i’m so excited i get to go with Copper an’ Grizzly, an’ Angie, an’ Bear (he’s been here for a bit getting better from bein’ maybe hit by a car) an’ Joy, a doggie who’s in somethin’ called a foster home… i dunno what that is but i think i’ve heard it’s a nice thing humans do for us while we’re waiting for our forever homes.  gosh, i got side-tracked… anyway i had so much fun the last time i went to a satellite… and this weekend i get to go to 2! satellites are awesome ’cause we get to meet lots of new humans an’ we get lots an’ lots of attention, an’ treats!  if you have some time you should check our website for more info ’bout us, an’ the satellites.  i’m gonna go for now… i’m so excited i gotta go tell the other dogs ’bout it.  bye!

Leo (Adopted!)

Hi humans!  My name is Leo!  I’ve been here a while, and wanted to blog sooner, but lots of stuff has been goin’ on, so now it’s my turn to finally tell ya’ll a bit ’bout me.  First, I’m ’bout 10 months old an’ came here ’cause the nice guy who found me in his yard couldn’t afford to take care of me ’cause I was real sick with parvovirus.  I got better quick, ’cause the humans here and at Welborn Animal Hospital are awesome, and I’m out in the main kennel with my roommy, Copper, waitin’ for a “forever home”.  I got to go with some humans to a place called “Hy-Vee” for somethin’ called a “donation drive” (I think it’s when nice humans give the humans who work here stuff they and the doggies and the kitties need).  I had lots of fun, and met lots and lots of people.  I’m really sweet, love humans… both big and small humans, but not too small, ’cause I’m still workin’ on manners and like to jump on humans a bit.  I dunno why humans think this is such a big deal, but I guess it’s somethin’ I’ve gotta work on.

Anyways… I love havin’ a friend to play with everyday, that’s Copper. He’s real fun, sweet, and cool to run ’round the yard with, and snuggle with at night.  I love goin’ on the Pack Walks on Sundays, too!  It’s lots of fun to get out with the other doggies and go for a long walk… but even after all that, I’ve still got lots of energy to run and play with Copper.  When Copper has his turn to blog, I’ll let him share some pics of us playin’ together… we do look cute!

Since lots has been goin’ on, and Leroy (who I think is a bit of a gossip) isn’t here, I wanted to update ya’ll on some of the goin’s on.  Leroy went to a home with this really nice human, who may adopt him.  She’s fostering him for now ’cause he has some stuff to work on… but we’re all real hopeful she decides to adopt him.  She’s even started callin’ him “Rufus”… it fits him, I think.

In other news, Jett went to his forever home last week, and some super nice human is comin’ in later today to introduce her dog to Sydney so maybe she can foster her, too.  Sydney is so shy, I think it’d be good for her to be in a home… I’m not an expert or nothin’ like that, but I’m kinda smart and just know stuff even though I’m pretty young.  Last week was real hard for our humans, too, ’cause Fancy went to the Rainbow Bridge.  I know they all miss her lots… and we do, too, even though from what I heard, she liked to stir the dogs up for fun.  She was a great dog, and even though I didn’t know her well, she seemed real cool, like a doggy to look up to.

That’s all I got for now… more stuff goin’ on all the time!  I’ll tell ya’ll more ’bout the kinda home I’d like next time!  Bye!!
