Ethan & Etta (Adopted)

hi humans!  i’m Ethan, an’ my sis is Etta!  i’m gonna try this blog thing first cuz my sis is a tiny bit shy at first… then she’s just as happy-go-lucky an’ outgoing as me!  here’s our story so far… we’re Pit Bull/Dachshund (funny spelling, huh?)/Corgi mixes or somethin’ like that, an’ we’re 6 months old.  KCK animal control found us, an’ we were real sick with parvovirus AND had dee-moh-dex mange, so we were brought here, after we went to VCA Welborn Animal Hospital cuz we had to get treated for parvo.  we’re so glad we got to come here!  we’re doin’ lots better now an’ our fur has grown back an’ everything!!  HSGKC has taken in lots of puppies since we came in who have dee-moh-dex mange, too… Wilbur, Homer, French Fry, an’ Dwayne… you’ll probly meet some of them soon, ‘cept for Wilbur cuz he’s gonna be adopted next week!

anethan&ettayways… i thought maybe you humans would like to know a lil more ’bout dee-moh dex so it doesn’t seem so scary!  ya see, dee-moh-dex is a mite that lives on all doggies an’ sometimes when doggies immune systems (i gotta say, humans got lots of big words for stuff…
sheesh!) are immature (like for us puppies), or if there’s a lot of stress (like we’re puppies fendin’ for ourselves on the streets without a home or a mommy), then the stupid lil mites get outta control an’ start attacking our fur!  how rude! as if we don’t already have enuff goin’ on!  anyways, sometimes it looks real bad… like we get scabs, an’ lee-juhns, an’ sometimes humans think we look icky… well we can’t help it!  we feel like we’ve got somethin’ called “poy-son ivy” (a rash humans get, i think) all over our whole bodies, an’ we itch real bad!  the good thing ’bout dee-moh-dex is that it’s not con-tay-jush to other doggies, kitties or humans!  the other kinda mange, scay-bees or sar-cop-tick mange is con-tay-jush!  i’m happy we don’t got that kind!  the humans here take real, real good care of us, an’ we take medicine to kill the stupid lil mites, an’ we gots to have regular medicay-ted baths til we get better!  how long it takes for us to be all healthy jus’ depends on how bad the mites are!  k, so i’m gonna let Etta talk ’bout somethin’ excitin’ for us tomorrow!

ettahi… i’m Etta an’ i heard our humans talkin’ ’bout a sat-el-ite adop-shun event me an’ Ethan getta go to tomorrow!!  i’m a tiny bit nervous ‘cuz i’m not totally sure what it’s all ’bout, but i’ve heard they’re lots of fun!  we’re gonna be at some place called Four Paws antry & Spa in Olathe from 11-3 on Saturday, August 1!  you can check out for more info!  i think it’s gonna be fun… we’re gonna meet new humans, some doggies, an’ if i ‘member right, when doggies go to sat-el-ite adop-shun events, humans make a REAL big deal ’bout how cute us dogs are (an’ me and Ethan are real cute… ask anyone, an’ check out our video, too!), give us lots of treats, an’ play with us an’ stuff!  sometimes, humans meet doggies at the event thingies, an’ wanna even adopt dogs they meet!  that’d be soooo awesome!  me and Ethan really wanna go to a forever home together!  we’ve been thru a lot already, an’ our super nice humans don’t want us to be split up cuz we’re so cute together!  the next time we blog, we’ll talk ’bout the kinda forever home we want… unless a family decides they wanna adopt us before then… that’d be so cool!

k, we’re gonna say bye for now cuz it’s time for us to go outside an’ play with Wilbur! don’t forget to check out for more info ’bout adopt-shun, the event tomorrow…an’ you gotta watch our video!  bye!!!!

Heya humans, Ah hope ya’ll are doin’ good an’ enjoyin’ sum ah this sunshine!  We’re all happy ta see da sun after all da rain da pass coupla days… but dere’s still ah big ole’ mud puddle for us ta roll ’round in… he he!  So, Ah wanna update ya ’bout some ah da tings goin’ on here.  Mah newest roommate, Aubrey, went to a foster home last week.  Nemo got himself a forever home, an’ he’s real happy dere.  Ah coupla puppies, Lass an’ Cookie got themselves forever homes, too, an’ Ah’m real happy for dem.

‘Cause dese oder dogs found forever homes, that gots me thinkin’ ’bout some stuff… Ah tol’ ya ’bout da kinda forever home Ah’d lak last time, but what Ah was thinkin’ ’bout is dere are lots ah Pit Bulls an’ Pit Bull mixes lak me here at HSGKC… an’ Ah’m wonderin’ ’bout why dat is. Ah know Ah’ve heard some people talkin’ ’bout us, an’ Ah suspect it’s ’cause folks maght be ah bit ah-fraid ah us ’cause ah stuff dey hear.  So, Ah wanna tell ya’ll ’bout some ah our real good qualities so maybe some ah ya maght consider givin’ dogs lak me a chance.

See, here’s what ya’ll need ta know ’bout us Pit Bulls… dis is da important stuff, so pay real close attention:  WE LOVE HUMANS!!!  We love bein’ wit humans even more dan we lak bein’ wit oder dogs!  Most ah us are real, real good wit chiren (sometimes we jus’ get real happy an’ jump up, an’ we try ta be gentle but we can be ah bit much for small, small chiren).  We love ta be somethin’ call “lap dogs”, meanin’ even do we’re kinda big, we love relaxin’ wit humans an’ layin’ on dem!  We love givin’ kisses (Brownie gives LOTS of kisses, an’ Ah do too, but Ah’m ah lil less intense ’bout kisses dan he be).  Almost all of us Pit Bulls here at HSGKC lak oder dogs… now summa us are kinda picky ’bout da dogs we like, but dat’s okay… no one laks everyone dey meet, ya know?  Ah know it ain’t always easy ta have ah Pit Bull ’cause when ya move ya gotta find ah city an’ ah place ta live where we’re allowed.  An’ when we’re your dog, you an’ your dog respresent all us Pit Bulls out dere, so we gots ta be on our very bestest behavior… but dats not too hard ta do!  We do gots some energy, an’ we’re strong, but after we’ve been for ah walk, or ah jog, or had some good ole’ play tahme, we jus love coolin’ down an’ cuddlin’ up wit our humans.  We’re not real hah energy dogs, ‘cept when we’re pups… but we grow outta dat pretty fast.  We’re smart, too, an’ sensitive ta our humans an’ envih-roh-ment, which means dere’s more goin’ on wit us dan ya maght think.

Well, Ah hope dat maybe Ah tole ya somethin’ new ’bout Pit Bulls dat ya didn’t know before, an’ dat if ya want ah best friend… ah dog who’ll go on walks an’ stuff wit ya, chill wit ya, an’ be your companion, den maybe ya’d think ’bout givin’ one of us ah forever home.  Ah’m gonna go for now… Ah think Pete an’ Christine are gonna try an’ get me anoder roommate!

Brownie (Adopted with Oreo!)

Hi humans!  What’s new with you?  I’m excited ’cause i just found out I getta go to Hamburger Mary’s tonight for a charity bingo thingy (I guess Bingo is a game you humans like to play) that will benefit HSGKC!  It’s from 7:30-9:30 pm, and I’m goin’ and so are Romy, Luke and Marvin!  I like goin’ to fundraisers ’cause I can give all the kisses I want!  And, I get lots of treats and attention, so it’ll be fun and I’m hopin’ that maybe someone real nice will meet me and wanna make me a member of their family.   Anyways, for more info ’bout where we’ll be tonight, check out

I wanna update ya on some of the adoptions, too… like Nemo got adopted again!  See, he had to come back here ’cause things weren’t workin’ out so hot for him in his new home… not his fault, and not anyone’s fault really… the other doggy decided he’d rather have his humans all to himself and didn’t wanna share with Nemo.  But, that happens sometimes, ya know?  Just ’cause we’re dogs doesn’t mean we all like each other!  So, this nice family came in and were wanting to maybe adopt a girl puppy, but Christine introduced them to Nemo and they fell in love with him!  I’m happy he found a new home pretty fast… and I’m ready for one, too.  Echo got adopted, too!  She’d been here for almost a whole year, but like our humans say… eventually a human or humans find us! Bianca is a lil sad without her BFF, but she’s gettin’ lots of extra attention from Jai, and Bianca and Zappa are workin’ on bein’ friends, which is cool.  Sasha was adopted and Mila, too!  Pete (fka “Skinny Pete”) went to a foster home last week, too… so lots of things have been changin’ round here.

One other thing I wanna tell ya ’bout that I’m real excited about… and other dogs, too, is the BEG Program is starting!!!  I think Radar and a couple other dogs have kinda mentioned it when they’ve blogged.  I dunno ’bout all the details, but Pete’s got lots and lots of ideas to help all of us dogs while we’re here waiting for our forever homes to enrich our lives with stuff like agility, and to help prepare us for our forever homes.  He’s awesome!  We’re excited ’bout it… and we’ll fill ya in when we know more.  I also know that our humans are tryin’ real hard to raise money for an agility yard for us, and to fix our fences…see there’s at least one doggy who’s bein’ a bit naughty and chewin’ the fence up!  Our humans are so puzzled ’cause they can’t figure out who’s doin’ it…  I may know, but I’m not tellin’ ’cause I’m not that kinda dog!

I’m gonna go for now… I gotta get a bath so I look real handsome for tonight!  Bye!!

Hey humans!  What is up?!?!  My name is Zappa… kinda cool name, huh?!?! I heard our humans say I’m named after some other human who was somethin’ called a “musician”, an’ even tho I dunno what a musician is, the dude must’ve been a cool guy for me to be named after him!  Anyways, here’s my basic info, then I’ll get to the more interestin’ stuff! I’m Pit Bull mix with some real big ears (all our humans love my ears!!!), I’m a lil over a year old, an’ I came here ‘cuz I was a stray an’  went in a yard with some doggies who were like SUPER protective of their yard, an’ kinda chased me off, but I got hurt while runnin’ for safety.  I’m good now, just got a few scars, but I’m still handsome!

I wanted to do this blog thing today cuz I heard there’s gonna be a satellite adoption event tonight at Tail Waggin’ PetStop in the Crossroads, an’ I don’t think I’m goin’  but my friend, Kenzie, might go (she’s been to a few satellite thingys an’ says they’re FUN!), an’ maybe some of the humans goin’ to First Friday might meet her or wanna meet me after they see a pic of me an’ how handsome I am!  I wanna talk a lil ’bout the kinda forever home I wanna have someday… I’ve heard the dogs here talkin’ an’ know that sometimes it takes us Pit Bulls longer to find forever homes than other dogs.  I think maybe it’s cuz we got a bad reputation cuz some not very nice humans use us for fighting each other.  I think I’m a good example of how cool most of us Pit Bulls are, good natured an’ everything… I mean, c’mon, even tho I hate to admit it, I went into the WRONG yard with some dogs who weren’t real happy ’bout me bein’ there… but instead of not likin’ other dogs, I do!  I LOVE Kenzie an’ am real happy to have a friend to run ’round an’ play with!  We wrestle, an’ play tug an’ stuff.  I’m real good with humans, too!  Like I know how to “sit” an’ “shake”, an’ even when I jump on our humans cuz I’m SO excited an’ happy to see them, I’m gentle… I just put my paws up on them so they’ll pet me!

K, that’s enuff serious talk…now I wanna tell ya just a lil ’bout the kinda forever home I’d like!  I’d really love to have a doggy brother or sister to play with, but I’d have to check ’em out first an’ make sure we “mesh” like me an’ Kenzie do, ya know what I’m sayin’?  I’m great with humans, an’ I’ve got LOTS of energy, so I’d love active humans to take me on lots of walks or runs!  I have been known to jump a fence on occasion, but if I got a friend to play with, or if a human’s outside with me, I stay in the yard I’m supposed to be in!  I do however think cats are LOTS of fun to chase… an’ I get it that some humans like cats (I will never understand those creatures), so my forever home should be kitty free!  I’d really love a house, an’ think I got too much energy sometimes for an apartment.  I keep my kennel clean, so I’ll be good an’ won’t potty in the house!

I’ve gotta run… time for me an’ Kenzie to go play!  Remember, if ya wanna learn more ’bout me, an’ the thingy at Tail Waggin’ PetStop tonight, go to  See ya!

Oreo and Brownie (Adopted Together!)

Hi!  My name is Oreo an’ me an’ my bro, Brownie, get to try this blog thingy out today. First, I’ll tell ya a lil ’bout us.  See me an’ Brownie came from the same doggy parents an’ this real nice human had us for ’bout 2 years.  He had to move, an’ tried really, really hard to find a place to live where we could live to, but he couldn’t, so he ended up bringin’ us here.  We were kinda scared when we first got here, Brownie more than me, but after gettin’ used to all the noise an’ commotion, an’ goin’s on, we started settlin’ in.  Even though we’d really love to go to a forever home together, we don’t have to… even tho we’d miss each other, we’ll be okay.  Maybe if we don’t get adopted together, our new humans will wanna stay in touch so we can still hang out an’ play together.  Anyways, I got kinda sidetracked.  So, here’s what ya need to know… we’re both Pit Bulls, we’re 2 years old, an’ pretty good with most other dogs.  I’m a lil more picky than Brownie, but maybe it’s ’cause I got a bit more energy than he does!  We love humans!!!  We both love givin’ kisses, an’ goin’ for walks (I heard from some of the other dogs here that if you jump the fence, you getta go on more walks… so I figured out how to jump the fence, tee hee.  The dogs who don’t jump fences get to go on walks, too, but they also get to spend time hangin’ out in the yards longer, in case you were wondering ’bout that).  We both walk pretty good on a leash, an’ are good with adult humans, an’ small humans, or kids, I think.  I would love to chase cats, but our humans won’t let me, an’ I guess I understand that ’cause our humans love all the cats an’ dogs here ’cause they’re awesome like that.  That’s enough ’bout me, I’m gonna let Brownie have a turn now.

Hi… I’m Brownie.  Oreo is a bit more outgoing than I am, not that I’m really shy or anything, but I’m not as outgoing as she is.  I love goin’ on walks, too, and LOVE givin’ kisses! I went to a fundraiser at Gordon Biersch earlier this month, and one of the volunteers there said that I was a real flirt and a charmer… I’m not quite sure what all that means, I was just being myself and giving her lots and lots of kisses!  Oreo and I wanted to kinda tell you what we’re like, and the kind of forever home we’d like because there’s another satellite adoption event on Friday.  It’s at Tail Waggin’ PetStop from 6-8 p.m. May 1st for something called “First Fridays”.  I don’t know if I’m going yet or not, but I know last month Farley went, and this really, really nice human who spent a lot of time with him thought he might be a good match for her and her dog.  After Christine talked with her, Bruno ended up being perfect for her and he went to his forever home on Saturday… so we’re hopeful maybe someone will want to meet us!  I’ve been to a couple satellites and am real well behaved.  I’m good with both big and small humans, and most dogs.  I can handle my sister’s energy, and if I can’t go to a home with her, would really love to have a doggy brother or sister. I’ve been “cat tested” and behaved, but our humans would say that I should really be supervised if I were to go to a home with cats.  Both of us keep clean kennels, so we wouldn’t be hard to house-train… we’d just have to learn the routine in our new home. That’s a good reason to adopt an adult dog versus a puppy, just sayin’, ’cause we’re grown up an’ know house rules, like what not to do in a home.  Well, that’s all from me for now… bye!

I’m gonna finish up for me an’ Brownie… he’s not as much of a talker as me, I guess. Anyways, if you’re not busy with human stuff Friday, you should go to First Friday an’ meet a few of HSGKC’s adoptable dogs!  Tell ’em me an’ Brownie sent you… lol! If ya wanna learn more ’bout us, an’ info ’bout Friday, check out  Gotta go… it’s time for me an’ Brownie to settle in for the night.  Bye!!!  XOXO

Hey, how ya’ll doin?  I love all dis nice weather we’re havin’ an’ I’m enjoyin’ all da sunshine!  I wanted ta blog today ‘cuz I saw dat Rylee found a forever home, so I wanna tawk ’bout the kinda forever home I’d like… an’ I know some oder dogs are goin’ to a satellite an’ fundraiser thing later today at Gordon Biersch, an’ even tho I’m not goin’ ya never know who might be lookin’ to adopt a dog like me!

First, lemme tawk ’bout all ma good qualities, an’ I gotta few.  See, I’m real friendly with humans, I love hangin’ out with ya’ll an’ gettin’ treats, pets, an’ goin on walks.  I walk nice, like I don’t pull da human who’s walkin’ me too much.  I like playin’ fetch in da yard wit rope toys, an’ when I’m relaxin’ inside after a walk, I love stuffed toys cuz I like to find da thingy in dem dat squeaks an’ pull it out!  I’ve been to some obedience classes at dis place called “The Dogs’ Spot” wit’ a volunteer, Stan, an’ I’m learnin’ lots an’ lots ah new stuff.  I know how ta “sit”, “watch me”, “down”, an’ I’m workin’ on “stays”… dey’re kinda borin’ but Stan gives me really dee-li-cious treats when I stay like he asks me to!  An’ he gives me lots ah praise, too!  I’m real good in da yard, too, cuz I don’t jump da fence here.  I got more stuff to do dan botherin’ wit jumpin’ the fence!

I’d really, really like to be the only pet in da home.  I gots lots an’ lots to offer, like unconditional love, nice kisses, an’ just chillin’ wit my new family.  I don’t really wanna share any attention wit anoder dog, an’ I wanna just chase cats, which I know ya’ll don’t like so much, but I’m a dog, it’s what we do (I think dere’s somethin’ a lil strange ’bout dogs who like cats, it ain’t normal, but dats a whole ‘nother story).  I’d be real good with small humans, but not too small cuz I’m still workin’ on learnin’ somethin’ called “manners”… meanin’ when I get real happy an’ excited I jump up an’ I’m workin’ on learnin’ not ta do dat, but it’s hard!

Well ya’ll, dat’s all I got for now!  If ya don’t got anythin’ planned for too-naght, go to da fundraiser at Gordon Biersch to support HSGKC, an’ meet a few of da oder dogs lookin’ for forever homes, too.  If ya wanna learn more ’bout me or how ta adopt me, go to or ma Petfinder page!  I hope all ya’ll have a real nice day!

Sweet Pibble (Adopted!)

Hi everyone, my name is Pibble.  I’m 2-3 years old and I’m a Pit Bull.  I getta try this blog thingy out today ’cause I getta talk ’bout me an’ Skinny Pete.  The reason I wanted to blog is ’cause I know Jai (she’s one of the humans who takes care of us, specifically me and Skinny Pete) has put some stuff ’bout us on somethin’ called “instagram” and I thought you might wanna know how we’re doin’. Before I say too much more… I want to tell you I’m doin’ great!  You may have read about my bad injury or seen photos of my injury on Instagram or Facebook, but I want you to know that thanks to the surgeries and lots of TLC from the humans here I’m getting better everyday!  Skinny Pete was shot in the foot, and he’s doin’ fine now, too!

This is my buddy, Skinny Pete!

This is my buddy, Skinny Pete!

I learned that ’cause HSGKC works with KCK Animal Control, dogs and cats who need extra medical attention come here ’cause they have more humans here to do the stuff we need, and that’s how Skinny Pete and I came here.  Anyways, we’re doin’ really good!  I think Skinny Pete has a lil crush one me, and I gotta be honest, I have a crush on him, too. We LOVE playing together, and hanging out together in the volunteer room.  We wrestle, and run around, and make our humans laugh.  I think the reason our humans love us so much is ’cause we have real good temperaments… like we LOVE all the humans we meet, especially when they give me Pup-Peroni (Christine found out that’s my most favorite treat, so she always have a stash for me).  They also love us ’cause despite what’s happened to us, we are happy and love humans.  I’m also great with cats, too.

I’m gonna go for now, but before I do, I just wanted to say I’m sooooo happy HSGKC helps dogs like me and Skinny Pete!  We’re so lucky to be here, and we’re doin’ great! If you’ve made a donation to help us, thanks!  Next time I’ll talk about the kinda forever home I’d like.  If you wanna learn more about me, Skinny Pete, or how to help HSGKC, check out the HSGKC website, or you can make a donation to Gabriel’s Fund or Ray of Hope in our name.
